About The Artist
Wayne Thiebaud (1920–2021) was an American painter known for his brightly colored, thickly painted images of desserts, everyday objects, and dramatic cityscapes. Starting as a commercial artist, he rose to prominence in the 1960s and was linked to Pop Art, though he differed by painting directly from life. A lifelong West Coast resident, he taught for many years at the University of California, Davis.
