About The Artist
Polly LaPorte, a California fine art painter, was born in San Francisco in 1959, grew up in Placerville, and now lives in Sacramento. Her artistic journey began as a child, inspired by her grandmother, Ethel Pierce Nerger, whose work is in the Crocker Art Museum’s permanent collection.
Polly's early passion for art led her to win a blue ribbon at the El Dorado County Fair, earn a scholarship to Sugarloaf Art Camp, and later serve as its art director. She earned a BFA from UC Davis, studying under Wayne Thiebaud, who influenced her use of dynamic color and the human figure. She pursued a career in commercial art, becoming Art Director at Sacramento’s ABC affiliate, News10, where she won multiple awards, including an Emmy.
In 2014, Polly left television to focus on fine art, joining the daily painting movement and studying with master artists. Her vibrant, storytelling paintings have gained collectors and recognition, including a recent community banner commission by Jibe in Natomas. She also teaches private art classes and continues freelance graphic design work. Polly's mission is to inspire joy and appreciation for life’s beauty through her art.
